You might have heard by now, but Proposition 8, the state constitutional amendment in California, has been overturned ... again.
To be completely accurate, the decision to overturn Prop 8 has been upheld by the 9th circuit court of appeals.
And what is the Catholic response to this?
It hasn't changed since the last time it was mentioned.
However, as everyone in secular circles becomes excited about this, someone should point out one little detail. This is the 9th circuit court of appeals. It is the most overturned court in the entire United States.
In this case, the legal action for what comes next is clear cut -- usually the Supreme Court. And the legal dispute of this case will be simple ... the original judge who overturned Prop 8 the first time clearly benefitted from his own decision (namely, he married his boyfriend).
In short, everyone should hold off on celebrating until the last court is heard on this.
