April 15, 2010 - A new bill proposed by Wisconsin Rep. Ted Zigmunt (D-Francis Creek) would allow insurance companies and employers to offer rewards and incentives for successful participation in wellness programs.

Assembly Bill 699, or the Wellness Bill, proposes to cut health-care costs by promoting proactive wellness programs. Participants in qualifying weight-loss programs, healthy eating seminars and classes and fitness classes would be eligible for monetary or other rewards from their insurance provider and/or employer. If passed, the bill will allow insurance companies and employers to explicitly market their wellness programs.
