Are the walls of mom and dad's basement closing in on you? Or maybe it's that you can't take another week of her tuna noodle casserole, complete with the peas you've always hated and so coughed into your napkin and fed to the dog, being forced on you yet again. Regardless of the motivation...you want out from the underground digs.
Or maybe apartment living has just gotten old and it's time you were "movin' on up" like George and Weezie.
And it could be, that you already own a home that, while you don't necessarily plan on staying in it forever, you still want to do some "smart" upgrading - i.e. won't break the bank and will be the ones most desirable by potential buyers when you finally do decide to sell.
Then HGTV's "Property Virgins" is for you!
All updates are not created equal
Not only does real estate guru and "Property Virgins" host Sandra Rinomato help first time home buyers navigate through the ever-changing and often complicated world of real estate on the television show, she also offers a vast array of real estate advice and tips via the HGTV website.
For example, she offers the following tips for first time home buyers on HGTV's FrontDoor.com:
- When it comes to investing, the best place to invest is in an up-and-coming area.
- Properties in good shape are rare and they don't stay on the market long.
- If you want to live in a city, you often have to sacrifice space.
- When you are looking at a house, you should have a "wish list" but understand that no house is going to be perfect.
In the most recent issue of "People Extra" magazine, Rinomato offers up the three big things that home buyers demand:
- Closet space: "I've seen people walk away from the perfect home because the closet was too small."
- Granite countertops: "There are so many wonderful products out there, but granite is the buzzword."
- Move-in-ready condition: "Most people don't have the time or cash to renovate so they just want to plop their furniture down and call it a day."
"I finally watched this show - I like a lot of other shows on HGTV as well but had never seen this one - and I found host Sandra Rinomato both extremely knowledgeable and very compassionate. It's become a game between my husband and I to predict whether the person featured on a particular episode will remain a 'Property Virgin' at the end or bite the bullet and burst their property buying bubble!" said Julie W of Cincinnati.
