Ancient druids use the colors of gems to use them as therapy. They associated the color of the stone with its healing properties. Some stones and their properties are:
Agate – hardens gums and protects vision
Amber – improves poor vision, deafness, allergies and asthma
Amethyst – for drunkenness and peace of mind
Beryl – diaphragm and liver problems
Bloodstone and Carnelian – hemorrhages and nose-bleeds
Chrysolite – nightmares and fevers
Coral – child’s epilepsy, stops bleeding, digestive issues, ulcers and scars
Diamond – toothaches, insomnia, epilepsy, coughing and lymphatic system\
Emerald – general healing
Garnet – anemia and other blood diseases
Jade – kidneys, stomach pains, purifies blood, urinary problems, eye wash and muscle strengthener
Jasper – Nervousness and stomach ailments
Lapis – vision issues, higher spiritual vibrations, strength, cholera and arthritis
Moonstone – strength
Opal – eyes, heart, protection and harmony
Pearl – aids in anger
Ruby – pain, TB, eye problems, boils and ulcers, poison and constipation
Sardonyx – banishes grief and promotes happiness
Sapphire – rheumatism, boils, colic and eyes

Amber, Turquoise, Imperial Topaz, Red Coral, Fire Opal, Moonstone, Opal, all Calcites including Blue Calcite, Green Calcite, Orange Calcite, Angelite, Azurite, Kyanite and Kunzite or any raw or rough stone should not be cleaned with the salt and water soaking method. Any stone with a hardness under 7 should not be cleaned in salt water. If you are not sure of the hardness of the stone use another method of cleaning
Malachite should be cleaned by putting it in running water (do not use salt) and dried in the sun. Never have salt close to Malachite.
