Proper Care for Lasting Lingerie

Lingerie is designed to make you look sexy and confident, but if your lingerie is worn and tattered feeling fabulous is going to be quite the challenge. You’ve spent your precious time and hard-earned money to achieve a perfect lingerie collection – make sure you take care of it to get the very most out of your investment!

Lingerie is typically very delicate and can be very easily destroyed if not cared for in the right way. The types of lingerie worn by today’s women are very soft and smooth. These pieces need to be given great care so that they can serve you well. Experts agree hand washing is the best option for lingerie. Make sure to use a very mild detergent and avoid the dryer.

If you absolutely have to use the washing machine, you must realize that not all lingerie is created equal – different fabrics, colors and styles and should be separated before washing. Some lingerie is made of cotton. Some is heavy on the lace. Spandex and polyester are more durable. This will factor in to how you wash different types of items. Additionally, make sure to sort by texture. For example, it’s not a good idea to wash your lingerie with towels because the fleece from the towel will cling to them and it and it’s not the easiest to get off. Make sure to keep your lingerie away from clothes that feature buttons and zippers – you don’t want your delicates getting snagged by the zipper from your jeans or hooks from a bra. All of these differences make it important to sort your lingerie just as you would your other laundry items.

After washing you may be tempted to wring out your clothes, but that is definitely not the case with lingerie. Wringing your lingerie out will cause wrinkles and make it look and feel shapeless. Also, to ensure long-lasting lingerie you must avoid putting them in the dryer. Ever! The dryer is not your lingerie’s friend. On bras it will cause the underwires to move about and push them through the fabric. The blasts of heat will degrade the Lycra so your bras will stretch out of shape sooner and lose their support, and then you’ll have to buy more. Even if you don’t wear underwires, your bras, panties and other delicates are made out of fragile materials, and the dryer is not delicate. Always, always, always air dry your lingerie. Get a drying rack, stick it in the bathtub, pull the shower curtain closed, and let everything drip dry in privacy.

As mentioned before, lingerie is an investment. Whether it’s a bustier that makes you look fabulous in your favorite dress or your favorite sexy bra and panty set that you save only for your special someone, you took the time to pick out these fabulous pieces – make sure you take the time to care for them too!
