On Monday morning, many Las Vegas and online sportsbooks began publishing lines and prop bets for the 2013 World Series, which will begin on Wednesday when the St. Louis Cardinals travel to Fenway Park to face the Boston Red Sox.
It is a rematch of the 2004 World Series, won by the Red Sox as they broke an 86-year title drought. Both clubs have won two titles in the past decade - Boston in 2004 and 2007, St. Louis in 2006 and 2011.
With the teams evenly matched, some of the prop bets are a bit more interesting to look at instead. Here are three of the more interesting onesfor Game 1:
1. Who will be winning after the first inning of Game 1? STL +105, BOS -125. The Red Sox averaged half a run per game more than the Cardinals this season. However, Jon Lester has not been as strong as Adam Wainwright this season (to put it mildly) so the Cards might be a good pick to take an early lead.
2. Number of Adam Wainwright strikeouts: Over 6.5 (-120) or Under 6.5 (-110). Wainwright struck out 219 batters this season, and has 20 K's in 23 IP this postseason. The Red Sox struck out over eight times per game during the regular season, with many games against pitchers far worse than Wainwright. The over is a good selection here.
3. Most Hits, Runs, and RBI: Carlos Beltran (-110) or David Ortiz (-120). Ortiz is just 7-for 35 this postseason, but has 3 HR and 7 RBI. Beltran is 10-for-39 with 2 HR and 12 RBI, but has the advantage of seeing Lester in previous matchups - he is 1-3 against Lester, and has two walks.
