Promoter Charles Rosenay told us he was very happy with the turnout for BEATexpo 2009, which took place Nov. 28-29, and hopes to do it again next year, though the Saturday night turnout this year had him a bit worried.
"Saturday night, (we) had about between 300 and 400 people and I was ready to strangle myself," he told us on the phone. "I thought, 'Oh my God, months of promoting and all this work. My biggest concern was the next day when the exhibitors showed up."
Things were much brighter on Sunday.
"(We had) over 2,000 people, so it was very exciting," Rosenay said.
He said he was especially pleased about a surprise for him from the show's guests.
"Spanky (Mc Farlane, Spanky and Our Gang) kind of insisted that I let her perform. And she came on stage and Peter Tork played guitar. And Ian Lloyd and Vince Martel, the rock-type guests, were right behind her doing back-up vocals. Without me knowing, they had been rehearsing and so they conspired to do a set. And it was really a highlight of the event."
Will there be a BEATexpo 2010?
" I hope so, but I don't know. We'll take some time off and analyze things," he said. "(But) everyone who left said, 'Please do it again.'"
