A well know Detroit Bishop has resigned only weeks after announcing that she had married a woman; according to an October 18 article in the Washington Post. Bishop Allyson D. Nelson Abrams was the pastor of Zion Progress Baptist Church for 5 years. The article goes on to say that Abrams was wed in March in Iowa.
According to Wikipedia; 31 state constitutional bans on same sex marriage have been adopted. A lesbian couple is challenging Michigan’s ban on same sex marriage. The challenge will be heard in court in February.
Supporters of same sex marriages point to divorce rates as proof that the current marriage doctrine (one man and one woman) needs to be adjusted. According to the website “divorce statistics;” the current divorce rate is between 41 and 50 percent; depending on the polling agency. And while marriages are lasting longer now than in the 1990’s; children of divorced parents are still 4 times more likely to divorce than children in households where the parents stay married.
Critics of same sex marriages point to the Holy Bible as proof that the Michigan ban (and other bans) should be upheld. In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul spoke against same sex relationships; amongst other things. Paul referred to it as unprincipled.
Abrams was Zion’s first female pastor.
Can a person who believes in God support same sex marriage?
