Promescent spray helps men fight PE

In the United States, millions of men suffer from premature ejaculation (PE), which doctors regard as uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after sexual penetration. The condition has long been considered one of the most common male sexual issues.

For many, it’s also cause for embarrassment and/or disappointment in the bedroom.

The causes of premature ejaculation are not entirely known by the medical community, but psychological factors, genetics, hormonal problems, medication, and inflammation are believed to be contributing factors.

Some contend that PE could be the new ED – erectile dysfunction. The latter gained wide attention in our popular culture due to drug maker Pfizer’s heavy marketing of Viagra, which remains one of the top selling medical products in the marketplace. However, PE is thought to affect a larger portion of the male population. ED is largely confined to elderly citizens.

What is the “arousal gap”?

The average man takes between 6 to 7 minutes to reach orgasm, while women on average take between 15 to 20. The $15 billion sex toy industry has benefited from this gap by selling females a variety of products to help them cope with this gap (i.e., vibrators and dildos). There are a variety of numbing creams and sprays for men, but these have been rejected by many users due to the loss of sensation during intercourse.

More U.S. pharmaceuticals are offering products that address PE. Earlier this year, the Independent Pharmacy Cooperative (IPC) and Absorption Pharmaceuticals (AP) signed a distribution agreement whereby IPC will make AP’s topical treatment for premature ejaculation, Promescent, available to its more than 4,500 member pharmacies throughout the United States.

Here are key features of the Promescent spray:

  • Only FDA-approved product for PE
  • Anti-depressants (SSRIs), which slow the ejaculatory response in men (and orgasms in women), is currently the primary treatment being recommended by most physicians
  • Promescent replaces SSRIs with urology and efficacy
  • Ease-of-use and on-demand application of the spray
  • Essentially no side-effects while SSRIs do have effects
  • Promescent’s absorption formula enables men to retain sensation during intercourse
