Last year I had the honor of speaking to the students who are a part of Project SEARCH. Project SEARCH is a program offered by the Berks County Intermediate Unit. This program offers students who happen to have a disability and are in their last of high school. The Intermediate Unit with Project SEARCH collaborates with East Penn Manufacturing to give these students a real life experience and have them do a variety of jobs.

East Penn Manufacturing otherwise known as DEKA Battery manufactures batteries on a large scale. The site of East Penn Manufacturing is huge. The compound works with security and medical for all of their employees so the types of jobs students can try are vast. Students must have the backing of their school district (who pays the tuition) and apply to the program.
As a student and a parent you may want to check it out. There is an open house coming up.
