Fashion designer Mondo Guerra is celebrating life and giving back to the community that has supported and inspired him for years. The Project Runway star announced this week that he is collaborating with Colorado AIDS Project (CAP) to raise awareness and support for HIV/AIDS advocacy by launching The Pozitivity Project on February 18.
The Pozitivity Project is Mondo’s tribute to the enduring strength and spirit of those living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. With the goal of reaching a national audience, The Pozitivity Project seeks to challenge the stigmas surrounding the disease by keeping an optimistic focus on life. Despite all of the negative implications associated with HIV/AIDS, Mondo maintains a vision of collective empowerment – a community of acceptance and joy.
The Pozitivity Project also represents Mondo’s evolution as an HIV-positive individual. Mondo courageously disclosed his HIV status on Project Runway after a decade of personal silence. His brave confession became one of the most poignant moments of season 8. His story drew a tremendous outpouring of support and introduced Mondo as a new voice in HIV/AIDS advocacy.
At the forefront of The Pozitivity Project is Mondo’s challenge-winning textile pattern, which holds deep personal meaning for the artist. The bold and colorful design is the culmination of Mondo’s ability to reconcile his difficult past with HIV through the hope of a brighter future.
In coordination with the launch of The Pozitivity Project, Mondo has designed a t-shirt featuring an oversized print of the striking pattern. The shirts have been playfully dubbed Pozitiv-a-Tees, and a portion of each sale will benefit CAP’s continuing mission to provide resources for its members and the community.
Denverites will be the first to get their hands on Pozitiv-a-Tees when Mondo, CAP, Wilhelmina Denver, and Bliss Studios present The Pozitivity Project Launch Party on Friday, February 18. The event takes place at Wilhelmina Denver’s beautiful new space located at 209 Kalamath St., Ste. 10.
The launch will offer Mile-High residents the opportunity to meet Mondo, receive Pozitiv-a-Tees, and include their voices to the worthwhile campaign—a photo booth, provided by Vivid Photography Studio, will capture guests in their shirts expressing their Pozitivity. The event is ages 21 and up. Pozitiv-a-Tees will become available for online purchase on February 19.
“I want to remind everyone that The Pozitivity Project is much more than just a fundraising effort,” Mondo revealed, “It’s an invitation for all people – regardless of their HIV status – to get involved with the cause. Don’t just donate, participate!”
The Pozitivity Project Launch Party takes place at Wilhelmina Denver on February 18 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. Tickets for the event are $50 and include a Pozitiv-a-Tee and photo portrait. A portion of all ticket sales go to CAP. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance by visiting www.coloradoaidsproject.org.
