Four designers graced the runway at the Spring 2014 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for Season 12’s finale of “Project Runway” Thursday. The designers included Justin LeBlanc, whose hometown is Tampa, Florida and now resides in North Carolina; textile extraordinaire Dom Streater, Swedish-born Alexandria von Bromssen, and former dancer Bradon McDonald. Each of the designers had a distinct point of view, and impressive collections overall, making it extremely tough on the judges to choose a winner. Kerry Washington, star of the ABC hit drama “Scandal,” was the guest judge.
Lincoln Center was the site of New York’s fashion week. The show began with Justin’s journey. He told the story of being born deaf, then being able to hear thanks to a medical breakthrough technology of his cochlear implant. Dom named her array of colorful prints and textiles “Retro Redux,”a look into the future by borrowing from the past. Alexandria’s was this season’s Michelle Franklin Lesniak, Season 11’s winner, with her impeccably well-tailored modern look. Bradon took a risk with his metallic materials and vividly colorful springtime theme.
After the judges spoke with each designer, and looked over their workmanship, a decision was finally reached. In fourth place was Bradon, third place went to Justin and the two ladies were left standing. Alexandria came in second, while Dom Streater became Season 12’s winner and recipient of a $500, 000 prize, the largest in this show’s history.
