The season finale of “Project Runway All Stars” took place at the United Nations headquarters Thursday night. Each of the designers had to create a 6-piece collection in only four days. Their inspiration for this final challenge was to honor their ancestral heritage.
Korto is from Liberia, Elena originally from the Ukraine, and Seth Aaron’s grandparents came from Spain. They were all taken to the General Assembly at the UN to meet the delegates from Liberia, Ukraine, and Spain.
Each one discussed separately their design ideas. Later on they sketched while seated behind the famous desks where delegates sit during important sessions. Back at the workroom Korto, Seth Aaron, and Elena got a little help from their fellow All Star competitors who were Christopher, Jeffrey, and Viktor.
It was a one-of-a-kind fashion show held exclusively for the judging panel, a few UN delegates, and Season 3 All Star finalists. Elena’s collection featured her signature big shoulder, futuristic-looking jackets and tops. It seemed to be a repeat of what she created throughout the season. No real surprise from this Ukrainian.
Seth Aaron followed up with his “Ole” collection that was magnificently tailored and completely cohesive. Like any Project Runway finale show there was a twist. They had to make their seventh garment out of scarves. Seth created a standout dress that was a pleasant contrast from his other solid color pieces representing Spain’s flag.
Korto was the last to show her collection that was complete with her trademark prints, while models wore Liberian tribal make-up. Finally back to Parsons runway where each of the designers was critiqued individually. The judges favored Seth and Korto, while Elena was not as impressive as her previous challenges in the season.
Elena came in third place with Seth and Korto in the top two. In the end it came down to Seth Aaron winning Season 3 of “Project Runway All Stars.” This is the first time a previous winner from his season captured the title once again. During the congratulatory period before the end of the show, a poll was conducted on Seth’s win at the bottom of the television screen. 25% were in favor of him winning, while a whopping 75% were not happy with the judge's choice.
