Despite being one of the most recognized and successful artists of all time in Brazil, Chico Buarque (aka, Francisco Buarque de Hollanda) is still not very well known in the US.
Chico Buarque’s career spans over 40 years and comprises over 60 albums, plays, books and movies, and he is famous for songs with intricate and controversial lyrics that challenged censorship scrutiny during the Brazilian military dictatorship in the 60’s and 70’s,
Translating the lyrics from Portuguese and playing Chico’s music live with Brazilian and American musicians, along with vocalists and dancers is the mission of The Chico Buarque Project.
According to the Project’s producer Mark McCaffrey, the goal is to turn people on to an artist who is well worth knowing in this part of the world.
The Chico Buarque Project will be performing 17 songs in two sets sensitively choreographed by Jeane July at the Rain Night Club at 8PM on Saturday, April 6th.
