Obsidian Entertainment had a pair of big announcements Tuesday for its Kickstarter-backed spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate and Ice Wind Dale. Project Eternity received it's official name and a new trailer that gives fans a first look at the gameplay in action.

Project Eternity is now officially Pillars of Eternity and received an appropriate new logo filled with pillars. Obsidian also released a new Backers Portal for those that contributed nearly $4 million to the game on Kickstarter.

The new trailer and images released that show the game in action should immediately pull in those familiar with the classic Infinity Engine games such as Baldur's Gate. While it looks like a Dungeons & Dragons game though, it isn't. Obsidian Entertainment has created an all new mythology for Pillars of Eternity and a new ruleset as well. Class and race restrictions are gone and characters are built with a point-buy system for example.

Pillars of Eternity is expected to be released for the PC sometime in April 2014.
