Project Catwalk for a Cause at Barrett-Jackson

On Tuesday, January 17th, Rock Me Events declared a winner for the Project Catwalk for a Cause fashion design competition. At the Lifestyle Pavilion at Barrett-Jackson, three local designers took center stage to create their looks and present their designs live on the runway. The three local fashion designers Joanna Deshay, Kathleen Tinkler and Jennyvi Dizon competed to create the most fashionable look on stage within 60 minutes and at the same time engage the audience. To help get the crowd’s attention, the emcee Jo Lance (and mini Jo Lance) from Mexico’s Next Top Model was side by side with each designer asking crucial questions about each of the designer’s design process.

Other than the short time-frame of one hour to create the look, the designers had to engage the audience with their presentation in hopes of selling what was created. Each garment made on stage for Project Catwalk for a Cause was donated to the M.A.D (Make a Difference) Girls organization a non-profit company that supports activities to enhance the well-being of the less fortunate. Each design that was created during the day was submitted in the live-auction later in the evening, where the final part of the challenge was to get the highest bid. The winner would be announced after the 3D fashion show featuring clothing from Etcetera and the highly anticipated Jordin Sparks performance.

The winner of the design competition with the most winning bids was Joanna Deshay with her highly styled draped purple print gown. Joanna Deshay is the fashion designer behind the Black Russian Label. A line inspired by bright colors, rich textures, and cultural influences from India, Africa, Russia, Asia and Europe. Joanna believes that "Fashion is in you and something that you are; it has to be organic and be birthed by your truth from an authentic place."
