Progressive rock/metal albums to anticipate in 2012

If you're like me, you love progressive music (be it rock, metal, pop, indie, or any combination thereof). 2011 was an incredible year for the genres as many of its top artists, including Steven Wilson, Opeth, Dream Theater, Neal Morse, Beardfish, Anathema, Riverside, and Devin Townsend released new work. While 2012 isn’t shaping up to be quite so substantial, there are still many releases to watch out for in the upcoming months. Whether officially confirmed or just wishful thinking, here are some of my most anticipated albums for the year!

*Note that this is partially a speculative list; not every album has been officially confirmed. It is known, however, that all the following artists are nearing completion on new material. Please visit the official websites for more information.

Just some helpful and interesting tidbits: Echolyn's new record is the group's first studio effort since 2005's The End is Beautiful. Also, Phideaux's Infernal will be the final chapter in the triogy started by The Great Leap and Doomsday Afternoon, and Storm Corrosion is the heavily anticipated side project by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, No-man) and Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth).
