The picture shown below on the left has gone “viral” yesterday and today on Facebook and has been “liked” by more than 8100 individuals and also shared more than 193,000 times. The picture says “This person supports love” and depicts figures of a female-female marriage, a male-female marriage, and a male-male marriage and below those it says “Hit 'share' if you do too!” The picture appears to have been posted by its sponsors at The Jon Stewart Fan Page on Facebook, and below that it says “Why This Heterosexual is Fighting for Gay Rights” with a bit.ly link that leads to a front group blog site called “Forward Progressives.”
The site ForwardProgressives.com is a blog site, featuring the slogan “Forward Thinking for Progressive Action,” that includes articles gay rights issues, Democrats, articles defending President Obama from the alleged lies told by conservatives, and articles attacking what it calls the “anti-abortion agenda.” While the picture that has gone “viral” on Facebook suggests a bipartisan appeal to support for same-sex marriage, the web site clearly is a very partisan blog site for self-identified Democrats who support President Obama. The slide show above this article shows screen shots of several pages from ForwardProgressives.com.
A “whois” look-up of their web site domain, which usually reveals the name of the person or organization that registered the domain for the web site, reveals that this domain has been registered via GoDaddy.com service that reveals the registrar's address rather than that of the owner of the web site. A Google search for information on Forward Progressives only yields links to their web site and also their Facebook page. The group's Facebook page was created on December 20, 2012.
It is not clear from the name of the group whether the use of the word “Forward” is based on Barack Obama's use of same word as the slogan for his 2012 reelection campaign. It is clear from the content of their web site that those behind Forward Progressives support President Obama and many of his policy priorities, including advancement and acceptance of same-sex marriage.
