Prognosticator extraordinaire

Accomplished author, Cal Orey, has once again hit the nail on the head in the arena of earthquake prediction with the Alaskan 7.2 magnitude earthquake that recently struck on June 24, 2011. Her uncanny heightened senses make her one of the most exacting precursor earthquake predictors in the field. I’ve written about her predictions before, but she never ceases to amaze with her ‘spot on’ accurate prognostic abilities. She granted me the following recent interview:

Examiner: What date did you first feel alarmed about this situation?

Cal: I pulled a “Harold Camping” extension on this forecast.  Read how I extended my original prediction for a major earthquake to hit Alaska by April 25 listed below.  I based my original forecast on the recent seismic activity in Japan and sensed the West Coast was next in line.

Examiner: What were the parameters of this most recent seismic window?

Cal: Due to the moderate 5.2 quake on June 16 that rocked Anchorage (one of my chosen epicenters), I extended my seismic window. It was a ‘heads up’ and I had a strong gut instinct that a stronger shaker could follow or be part of a trigger effect. On my website, I posted this:

UPDATE: SWARM IS POSSIBLE...I'm including other regions... and this major+ eq could happen much sooner than Aug the way things are going...NOW or even early summer.
Potential Epis: Aleutian Is. AK Peninsula, Anchorage; 7.0+, tsunami report and potential tsunami for West Coast. Prob: 75%

Examiner: Did you get a feeling regarding a tsunami at all...that there would either be one or not?

Cal: When there is a major quake in Alaska it’s par for the course for a tsunami report to follow. So, while this quake was predicted using my intuition, my knowledge of past quakes in this region helped me to add that a tsunami report at least would follow. Also, the night of the quake, I was working on a phone psychic network and began to feel uneasy. I signed off and went to my e-mail and was welcomed with a tsunami advisory report. Then, I surfed straight to the USGS website and was not too shocked to see the large red square at the Aleutian Islands.

Examiner: The odds for your prediction on this one was 75%.  How does that compare with previous odds you've had?

Cal: I usually provide a 75% probability when I feel confident about a forecast as I did for Alaska—especially after the 5.2 rocked near Anchorage.

Examiner: Are there any other upcoming seismic windows about to happen in the next two months? If so, in what region(s)?

Cal:  I’m holding my ground that California will get its overdue major quake in 2011. The most prone regions include: Offshore Northern California (Petrolia/Eureka/Crescent City); Southern California (San Fernando Valley/San Bernardino); San Francisco Bay Area; and Tahoe-Reno Sierra Area—my current home.

Examiner: What about an upcoming tsunami? Are there any areas that should brace themselves for this possibility?

Cal: A big wave could certainly happen if an earthquake hits Offshore Northern or Southern California and Offshore Washington/Oregon. Also, the 7.2 Alaska quake could trigger a great quake near Anchorage which could spawn a tsunami for the entire West Coast and Hawaii as it did back in March, 1964. After predicting the major quake to hit Japan by March 12—I realize anything is possible and nobody is safe. My words of advice: Be prepared if you life on the West Coast.

Examiner: Where can Examiner readers find your predictions or where can you be contacted?

Cal: www.calorey.com

and I pen a monthly Earth Changes column for Oracle 20-20 magazine http://oracle20-20.com/. Also, I am a part-time phone psychic advisor for two networks.

Examiner’s note: Cal is the noted author of many books that can be found on her website and are available through Amazon.com. I’ve read a few of them and have been impressed with the amount of detail she incorporated in to her book about earthquake prediction entitled ‘The Man Who Predicts Earthquakes: Jim Berkland, Maverick Geologist-How His Quake Warnings Can Save Lives’ ©2005 by Sentient Publications. Besides showcasing Jim, it is chock full of very interesting information surrounding multiple notable quakes and the art of earthquake prediction. I highly recommend this book for your perusal.
