While doing some recent research I happened upon The Stitchers’ Academy. Located at 38 Harlow Street Worcester, Ma The Stitchers' Academy will be celebrating its 1 year anniversary on June 1st.Vicki Niro, owner, has been teaching quilting and sewing within the Worcester County area for a number of stores for the past 10 years. She also has training in sewing machines sales as well repair technician certification in mid-arm machines. In addition to her love for quilting she is an accomplished seamstress with extensive alterations knowledge and experience.

The Stitchers’ Academy is a fabric and fiber teaching studio they do not selling any fabric. Classes in everything from Beginner Quilting 101through Alterations 101 - Hems and Zippers, are always available to take and range in price from $30-$95 and can be from one night for 2 hours all the way up to 6 nights for 2 hours. “The studio offers traditional skills but everyone is encouraged to try their own thing, change things up. Nothing is considered wrong. All age levels are welcome, male or female.”

They also offer classes specific to kids, teens, and tweens. “Children’s, pre-teen and teen classes are available. Children must be at least 8 years old and will be placed with other children of the same age. Children will work with scissors until the teacher feels they are ready to use a rotary cutter. Students will use a sewing machine unless otherwise stated. Class will meet 2 afternoons a month for a 2 hour time period.” There is a $15 class fee for all kids, tweens and teens classes.
“The Stitchers’ Academy also will make a custom quilt with your memories, Photograph Quilts, Signature Quilts, T-Shirt Quilts, Sentimental Clothing Quilts and Special Occasion Quilts. If it needs that personal touch then we can help you. Prices vary. Ask a studio member for more for more details.”

The Stitchers’ Academy is open Weds - Fri 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Sat 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Stop have a look around and take a class or 2 while you are there. Just be sure to tell them that Mindy the Worcester County Sewing Examiner sent you.

· The cost of materials and/or books are not included in class fees, unless otherwise noted.
· Each student will receive a materials list and information sheet upon registering for class.
· Students are expected to purchase the materials appropriate to their class(es) prior to attending class.
· If you need assistance finding a local fabric shop, or need guidance in selecting materials, your class instructor will be happy to provide you with additional information and guidance.
