I got to chat with Crissy Rose McWeeney the CEO and founder of the company.
Q: What inspired you to start The House of Makeup?
A: I love beauty and have traveled to 45 countries. Seeing all types of women and what beauty is in other countries is an inspiration to me. At the age of 15 my first job was doing hair and makeup. I have a degree in international marketing with a concentration in mandarin, through out collage I did make up on the side. After that I worked in finance, then beauty PR, and I produced Mercedes Benz fashion week shows and started to style the campaign and look book shoots. People/ Fashion campaigns then started asking me to do the makeup for their shoots and weddings. I was in high demand and eventually got so busy that I needed to hire staff.
Q: What makes The House of Makeup different from other beauty services?
A: The first thing is we travel anywhere on the globe and we are a full service ( hair, makeup, spray tan, lashes, hair extensions) . I think what sets us apart is we listen and communicate with the clients to achieve the look they are going for. We also concentrate on how the client looks on and off camera.
Q: What is the criteria for a stylist to become apart of the team at The House of Makeup?
A: First they have to be a licensed cosmetologist. Then they train and work under me to learn my techniques to become a master artist for The House of Makeup. Of course one thing I look for is a natural talent at doing makeup and hair.
Q: You've worked with all kinds of clients, do you have a favorite type of client to work with?
A: I really like to work with the everyday women who is just getting dressed up to go out, attending a wedding or is the bride herself. I've worked with celebrities for movies and stuff but my ultimate favorite client is the everyday women.
Q: You started the business 3 years ago, what would you say was the biggest challenge you had to overcome?
A: Juggling being an artist and a business women at the same time. I style people all day and then do the payroll and contracts when I get home at night. I love what I do so much so my social life is put on the back burner. I won't go to events or functions for myself but for my clients, I always put my clients first.
Q: You just started your own makeup line too, can you tell me a little bit about that?
A: The makeup line uses pure pigmented colors and is designed so that the everyday woman can use it. It is all easily laid out for my clients so they can use professional quality makeup everyday and look flawless on the skin.
Q: Do you have any advice for someone looking to break into the beauty industry?
A: Learn your own technique. A lot of makeup artist feel they have to conform to what they teach at beauty school. Your own technique is your asset. Don't be afraid, be confident on the outside and tackle the task at hand. Figure out what techniques will work for you and your clients and what will set you apart from other artist.
