This is the third in an Examiner series that highlights the top ranked prep football players in the Class of 2015 from Gwinnett County, one of the largest counties in metro Atlanta. Greater Atlanta Christian cornerback Micah Abernathy is the subject of this edition.
Abernathy currently has an overall composite ranking of No. 3 in Gwinnett, No.18 in the state of Georgia, and No. 182 in the nation while being ranked No. 21 nationally at his position. Despite playing in AA, the 17-year old has received offers from more than 20 schools, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Wisconsin but has yet to commit. It appears that UGA has an edge in the Abernathy sweepstakes, but UT and OSU look to be in the final three.
Abernathy has the speed, footwork, and agility of a running back (which he also played for GAC), and he has received interest from Wisconsin at that position, but seems more likely to go to the next level as a cornerback due to his body size. The four-star recruit broke a 96 yard run against traditional rival Westminster last season that showcased his talents.
