Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy,” the final chapter in the second trilogy of the series, is now available on the Nintendo 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS on the Nintendo eShop, Nintendo confirmed in a press release today obtained by Examiner.

While Nintendo said the game stays close to its puzzle solving roots, Nintendo said that Professor Layton and his faithful assistants Luke and Emm will solve more location-based puzzles than ever before, from snowflakes in Froenborg to a busy metro station in London in hopes of solving the mystery surrounding the ancient Azran civilization.

The game also contains over 150 new puzzles and a new downloadable SpotPass puzzle every day, for a year. There are also over 100 items to be found in the game that can also be traded among players via StreetPass and used as in-game challenges.

With so much to do and trade, Nintendo is confident the same will entice both returning players and new ones.

“Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy is a must-have for longtime fans of the series who are excited to complete this latest trilogy of games. It is also a great starting point for first-time gamers looking to challenge themselves to the game’s wide variety of puzzles,” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing said in the press release. “The game is one of the many full, robust experiences that can only be found on the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
