What better way to spend a day at the beach, then enjoying professional beach volleyball action? On Saturday August 24, 2013 the Extreme Volleyball Professionals Tour made a visit to Jenette's Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina. This marks the first time professional volleyball has stopped on a North Carolina beach.
Professional Men and Women volleyball teams nationwide are come to compete for more than $5,000 in cash and prizes. Team Miami will be led by three-time EVP Champion Gretchen Dufner and her partner Capri Growtoski. Team Raleigh will be led by Tristy Bittikofer and Heather Larkin. Other teams from Chicago, Atlanta and Delray Beach are scheduled to compete.
The morning started out with sun and mild temperatures, but a blustery wind gusting up to 20 mph. Despite the high wind the tournament began with little delay. Locals and vacationers gathered on the white sand to enjoy the high level of EVP Pro Am volleyball.
North Carolina Outer Banks was the perfect host for such an event. With the rich heritage of the Wright Brothers Memorial, Historic Manteo, wild horses in Corolla, and the iconic lighthouses, the volleyball tournament seemed to be the perfect addition to a perfect summer destination.
In fact the organizers are so confident in this venue, they announced the return of EVP Pro Am tour for 2014 to nags Head in May. We expect the 2014 tour will continue to grow in popularity and will result in another successful outing.
