Prof. bans Fox News: Stephanie Wolfe says ‘Fox News makes me cringe’ (Video)

A prof. in West Virginia is stirring the controversy pot after reportedly issuing a syllabus that narrowed student’s research options and directly banning any citations to Fox News, according to a Feb. 15 Fox 8 WGHP news report.

West Liberty University professor Stephanie Wolfe issued the syllabus in her political science course and noted what sources her students can and cannot use.

WTOV9.com reports that two of the banned sources include the fictitious news source, The Onion and real-life news network, Fox News. The professor did not hesitate to articulate her disdain for the news channel, allegedly writing in the syllabus, “The tagline Fox News makes me cringe.”

"One of our values at West Liberty is to encourage students to go out and inquire and gather information and look at as many different sources as possible on any side, before you reach your opinion," said Robin Capehart, the president of West Liberty University.

Affected parents and students hit their local media to share their concerns. Parents reportedly claim it is “unfair to the students to encourage some sources which lean in one direction politically, while discouraging those going in the other direction.” Capehart had this to add, “If students have concerns about these types of issues, they can approach their department chair, they can approach the dean.”
