If you cross the 13th street bridge into Phenix City and continue straight for about 5 miles, you will see a tiny produce stand on the right next to a gas station. On a whim, I decided to stop in and see what was available.
A helpful young boy and his father greeted me, proud to show their produce. They told me the majority is grown in Sand Mountain, Alabama. The peaches are grown in Chilton County, Alabama. (Local - check!!)
I ended up with 3 bushels of fruits and vegetables: squash, peaches and yellow squash. I grabbed two beautiful green peppers for $1.
In total, I spent $10 even and have enough produce for a couple of weeks, at least. Look for your local farmer's market or produce stand and enjoy the bounties of your state.
