Problems with the September Golden Super Cruise: Well founded fact or mostly hype?

Some of you may have read my article earlier this week (Important News on Golden Super Cruise for Saturday, September 5th, 2009) where I posted a statement directly from the organizers of the Golden Super Cruise. The main issue was with the King Soopers Management and the parking lot that serves the King Soopers.

This isn’t the first time that the Golden Super Cruise has been accused of disrupting business or causing problems for the citizens of Golden. However, as you can read in my previous article, the proposed solution that was to be taken by King Soopers came off heavy handed and, in my own opinion, made them look unfriendly to the patrons that do spend money at the story every first Saturday during the cruise months.

All the hype aside, my family and I ventured out in the 1956 Cadillac Series 62 4-door to be part of one of the last remaining Golden Super Cruise events of the 2009 season (further reading here). We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a long line of traffic waiting to cross the roundabout at South Golden Road and the King Soopers. Traffic there was; there were even cars parked in the King Soopers parking lot. Most importantly, everyone seemed to be having a good time, which after all is what the Cruise is really about--the gathering of people who enjoy a stroll down memory lane while making new memories for the future.

So here is something to ponder: If football games, hockey, NASCAR and other social accepted events can cause traffic problems for the entire downtown metro area, then why is the Golden Super Cruise on first Saturday of every summer month—after six—such a problem?

More on that in my upcoming review of the September edition of the Golden Super Cruise; so stay tuned for that! Also, please visit the Golden Super Cruise website for information on how you can help clean up after the cruise and the Old Car Council of Colorado story to find out what they do for you.
