An infant formula that safely helps babies sleep through the night? Some things are just too good to be true.
Enfamil, a leading manufacturer of infant formulas, has released a new infant formula that is supposed to help babies sleep through the night. The new product is called Enfamil Restful.
According to the Enfamil website, the product is designed to:
- keep baby satisfied throughout the night
- thickens in the baby's tummy to digest slowly
Is this a miracle blend? Hardly. Aside from the dangers of infant formla ingredients, and the cost of using formula, Enfamil Restful has added rice starch to make the formula thicker. This is very similar to the practice of adding rice cereal to a baby's bottle. Many people will tell you to do this seemingly harmless trick, however, most parents are not aware of the many health risks associated with adding rice starch or cereal to baby's bottle.
If you are trying to get your baby to sleep for longer periods of time during the night or even sleep through the entire night, see my library of articles about babies and sleep.

seriously "dangerous". what serves as dangerous during different times varies. many, many kids started on baby cereal and even food much sooner, but yet we see far more food allergies now. why is that?
why they got a permission to release this type of formula since adding cereal to formula can be harmful for our children?!
I get an email on a board from all the WIC nutritionists in all 50 states and they are in an UPROAR! I checked it out and it does have added Rice Starch-which is what we give to infants with severe reflux.
But think about it: Why do babies need to FULL as if they were a Car? Nutritionally, NO ONE should eat until they are STUFFED! Anyone would fall asleep if they are full, babies too! A doctor reviewed it and did not like it for her child, she also would not recommend it to her patients!
Is it too much for us to take care of our children if they need to wake ever so often? BTW: The Enfamil AR (Added Rice) doesn't ALWAYS work for reflux!
@Karina & Jennifer:
Formula companies do what they want because they have convinced people their product is "close to breastmilk" which is a flat out lie. How can anything with a handful of ingredients compete with something without thousands?
Unfortunately, breastfeeding has no lobbists, billions in revenue, and the breastfeeding advocates tend to tell the truth-which is not always what people want to hear!!!
my 3 mo old is on this 2 oz he still wakes every 3-4 hours to eat becuz he has eating issues he is oly 6 lbs 12 oz i havnt seen much diffrece in this and givig him cereal
I actually just gave my 2 mth old this tonight and it honestly scared me the way she acted. she hadn't been that alert ALL day and it was difficult to burp her. I'm not so sure I will use it again
I also gave my 3 month old this tonight and she did NOT like it. First, she had to suck harder to get this thicker stuff out of the bottle. By the time she is at 4 OZ, she gave up and fell asleep. Then I tried to burp her, she would not burp 9I guess because the milk was too thick for the air bubble to surface). So she ended up eating less than her normal amount. My baby does not have sleeping through the night problem, I just wanted to try this and help her sleep even better, but now I regret it. I don't think I will feed her this formula again. I do not recommend anyone to buy this for their baby.
Thank you for the feedback i was just on my way to Target to try it out...My Daughter is 7 months old and she is On Enfamil AR since she was 3 months in my case the formula has ceased extra Spit up....thankx?
