Problems during and after pregnancy

There's a lot going on in there

Since pregnancy is harder on women over 40, more problems can crop up during and after the birth. The stress on the body can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, joint pain, etc.  Many of these issues will go away after the baby is born, but they can impact a woman’s health. Be wary of high blood pressure during pregnancy, since it can lead to an induced delivery.  Inductions greatly increase the chance of a C-section, which takes longer to recover from than a normal vaginal birth.

Having to deal with a brand new baby while recovering from surgery is no easy task. The new mom doesn’t have the luxury of being able to stay in bed to heal.  Having to get up during the night to feed a crying infant can be very difficult.  If at all possible, have a significant other take at least a week vacation from work to help out. Otherwise, the new mom risks too much strain on her body and the possibility of opening her stitches, which can lead to more problems.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help!  A new baby can detect its mom’s emotions. If she is stressed, it can pass to her baby.  That’s not good for anyone.

Unexpected problems can occur within a few months after birth.  If pain on the right side of the stomach crops up, don’t ignore it and think it will go away.  It could be appendicitis.  If pain is felt around the belly button, it could be a hernia.  That baby moved everything around inside the body, so any number of things can go wrong, especially for a woman over 40.  Pay attention to any new aches and pains.

Even normal pregnancies can be a strain on the body.  If it becomes painful to walk while pregnant, a support belt does wonders to help.   The baby pressing down on the pelvis can push apart the ligaments and make the bones rub together.  This can be excruciating.  The belt will help hold everything together.  They don’t make the pain go completely away, but they will help make it more tolerable.

After all is said and done, there is a new baby.  This miracle makes all the other stuff pale by comparison.  It can be compared to a long and hard battle with a victorious conclusion.
