Pro wrestling awards 2011: TV show of the year

TV Show of the Year

WWE Monday Night RAW

For the third year in a row, I can literally almost repeat word-for-word what was written in regards to RAW’s victory.

There is something about watching WWE RAW on a Monday night. Monday night wrestling has been an institution for wrestling fans for nearly a staggering twenty years at this point, and so it is no surprise that celebrity guest stars, highly pushed new talents, big returns and the top rivalries of the year always play out on the RAW brand.  While RAW this past year had it is definite shares of ups-and-downs (as it always does), its ups overshadowed its downs.

From the great build-up to WrestleMania XXVII, to surprisingly fun matches, three-hour specials and legit surprises, RAW had plenty of memorable moments once again this year.  When The Rock came back, it wasn’t on SmackDown; it was on RAW.  When Stone Cold Steve Austin came back, it was on RAW.  And even the sparingly used guest star gimmick was entertaining thanks to performers like The Muppets and Hugh Jackman

Ring of Honor on HDNet transitioned into its new home on Sinclair Broadcasting Group and was lost in the shuffle, Superstars often featured the best hidden gems, SmackDown was the more in-ring wrestling oriented product, NXT provided the absurdity and TNA Impact Wrestling did its valiant best to challenge “the flagship,” but once again RAW was the most popular, well-produced, highest rated, most talked about and overall best wrestling television program of the year.
