Pro Tour 'Gatecrash' deck tech: 'Wolf Run Bant' with Melissa DeTora

On Feb. 15, 2013 Melissa DeTora went 8-0 during day one at "Magic: The Gathering" Pro Tour "Gatecrash" with "Wolf Run Bant." Wizards of the Coast's R&D member Zach Hill spoke with her about the unique deck during the live coverage of the event. This marks the first time a woman has went undefeated in day one of a Pro Tour.

The deck's plan is to "gain tons of life and card advantage and blink everything," says DeTora. Thanks to Farseek there's no mana problems in this four color deck that splashes red for just two cards in the main. "It kills with Kessig Wolf Run."

"Why is Wolf Run so important?," asked Zac Hill. "It's amazing if you're in a Thragtusk mirror the Kessig Wolf Run makes them take a thousand damage. The guys just aren't good enough on their own," she replied.

Skullcrack doesn't faze DeTorra. "I am worried about Skullcrack, but you just play around it. There's so much life gain it doesn't matter." When asked if there was any weaknesses to the deck, she replied "I'm afraid of Esper, and just want to play against aggro all day." That's why she decided to play Syncopate. "I was really worried about Liliana of the Veil. Nobody ever sees a two mana counter coming. I totally countered a ton of Sphinx's Revelations with it."
