The Los Angeles Times reported on May 19 that 30-year-old pro surfer Jill Hansen was arrested and charged with attempted murder on Wednesday in what the Honolulu police are calling a case of road rage. Hansen, who also does some modeling and has her own clothing line, allegedly used her car as a battering ram to mow down 73-year-old Elizabeth Conklin in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Police say that they have witnesses on the scene saying that Hansen followed Conklin to her condo, and then ran over the elderly woman when she got out of her car. Then, witnesses say that Hansen put her car in reverse to “to attempt to hit Conklin a second time.”

Conklin says that she has no memory of being run down, stating that “I parked in my normal parking place, and I got out and all of a sudden I woke up in an ambulance.” Conklin also credits a Good Samaritan on the scene, Chris Khory, with coming to her rescue wielding a crowbar. When Khory saw Hansen trying to go after Conklin a second time, he smashed the rear window of Hansen's car with that crowbar. After having her car window smashed in, Hansen reportedly abandoned her car in Conklin’s condo parking lot and fled the scene.

“He saw her in her car getting ready to hit me again. He totally saved my life,” Conklin said.

The Daily News offered a somewhat different account as to why Hansen went after Conklin, who said that the incident wasn’t due to road rage – but to Hansen wanting to steal her luxury car. "She saw my car, it was the car she wanted, she followed me (and) was going to kill me to get the car," Conklin said.

Conklin, who was thrown about 20 feet after allegedly being hit by Hansen’s ramming car, suffered her fair share of injuries in the assault. She was admitted to the hospital with a variety of cuts, bruises, and an injury to her head.

At this point, police have no concrete motive for the attempted murder. As of this writing, the tattooed pro surfer is in jail on $1 million bail. For more on the story, see the video accompanying this article.
