Pro-Pet recalls pet food for cats & dogs: Possible salmonella contamination

Dry pet food for cats and dogs are very popular choices for pet owners. The Pet-Pro LLC of St. Mary’s in Ohio has issued a voluntary recall of a limited amount of dry cat and dry dog foods that were manufactured during a two day period.

The Pro-Pet company issued a press release from their firm on Feb. 5 stating that they are recalling those products manufactured during that timeframe. These bags of dry pet food have been reported to the FDA and have the potential for salmonella contamination although no reports of any illnesses have been said to be related to these products to date.

The particular bags of dry pet food were purchased and distributed though various retailers, distributors and on-line sites in the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

The product consumers should be looking out for have a “Best By Date” of May 6, 2014 and May 7, 2014.

Pets who have salmonella poisoning may be lethargic, have bouts of vomiting, a fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, decreased appetite and abdominal pain. If your pet experiences any of these symptoms from consuming these dry food brands on the recall list call your seminarian immediately and have them looked at as soon as possible.
