The Centurion made a confession of faith: “This truly is the Son of God.” His world was shattered. The Centurion witnessed hundreds if not thousands of executions in his time. He bloodied his hands following the orders of the Emperor down to the magistrate. A soldier relegated to carry out executions, by nailing the arms and legs of “criminals” to a cross, to die an excruciating, suffocating death. Seeing Jesus on that cross, witnessing life amidst death (the saints who rose from their graves) the Almighty revealed Himself to this Centurion (Longinus in the Orthodox tradition). The Centurion knew this was the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God.
When doctors take an oath, included is the vow to do no harm. When one becomes an abortionist, doctors go against their vow. Like the Centurion, abortion workers are following orders of their clinic, someone’s wishes, the law of the land. These workers are witnesses to the destruction of life.
When God reveals Himself to these workers, their lives completely change.
Fr. Terry shared witnessed stories from former abortion workers: One woman would come home every day from work and sit on the bathroom floor and cry for hours. Another shared how many he was part of the child’s death—4,000, 5,000. “Once I saw a child drown in the toilet where it was delivered, I couldn’t do this [work] anymore; I left.”
CEC for Life in partnership with Priests for Life has clinics for healing, restoration, and forgiveness for former abortion workers. The retreat gives the former abortion workers time to process, confess, begin healing, and accept forgiveness. “For those who love much are forgiven much.”
Fr. Terry shared where trickles of people were leaving abortion clinics, now there are streams of people. CEC for Life has the vision of ending abortion and closing every abortion clinic.
If God is a God of life, then the Lord will deliver, lift up, restore, protect, and guide each and every person from cradle to grave. These former abortion workers were witnesses to destruction. They are part of changing people’s perspective on abortion. They are crucial in the fight for life. Like every Christian, those who love much are forgiven much. We have all done wretched things, but God’s grace is prevailing, His forgiveness real and powerful.
