Pro-gun folks: Bill Clinton says he comes from your world (Video)

Former President Bill Clinton spoke to a meeting of Democratic donors Saturday night, Jan. 19, 2013. He discussed President Obama's efforts at gun control legislation, and he also advised respect for the Americans who are passionate about their guns. He identified himself as coming from that same world, according to Fox News.com.

“Do not patronize the passionate supporters of your opponents by looking down your nose at them,” Clinton said.

“A lot of these people live in a world very different from the world lived in by the people proposing these things,” Clinton said. “I know because I come from this world."

The meeting was private, according to Fox News.com. but Politico was given a transferable ticket by an invited member of the committee. Politico reported that Bill Clinton discussed the problem of politicians losing their jobs over their stance on gun control issues. He expressed a deep regret that he didn't consult the vulnerable lawmakers when he pushed through the assault weapons ban.

The former president also discussed a time when he was pressured by the NRA during his early political career. He humorously described the encounter, as reported by Politico:

Right there in the lobby,” Clinton said. “They thought they could talk to governors that way.
“I knew I was getting older when I didn’t hit him,” Clinton said. Clinton recalls telling the NRA lobbyist, “If that’s the way you feel, you get your gun, I’ll get my gun and I’ll see you in Texas.

Former President Bill Clinton has been imitated for his often-used phrase, "I feel your pain." In this speech on Saturday, he managed to align himself with the progressive, big-city element of the Democratic Party and still acknowledge the pro-gun folks in the rest of the country, albeit slightly condescendingly. Politico reports:

“A lot of these people … all they’ve got is their hunting and their fishing,” he told the Democratic financiers. “Or they’re living in a place where they don’t have much police presence. Or they’ve been listening to this stuff for so long that they believe it all.”

So, you gun owners across the country who don't have anything but your hunting and fishing, remember Bubba is one of ya'!
