Pro-golfer bit by black widow: Digs venom out with golf tee

A black widow spider bit LPGA golfer Daniela Holmqvist while she was at the Royal Canberra Golf Club for the Handa Australian Open in Yarralumla, Australia. According to ESPN on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, she felt a sharp pain around her sock line and quickly swatted the culprit away.

Daniela mentioned to the caddies that she was just bit and they became very upset and went for their phones to call the medics. She wasn’t going to miss a minute of her golf, so she decided to use a golf tee and dig the venom out of her leg.

“"It wasn't the prettiest thing I've ever done, but I had to get as much of it out of me as possible, and that she did. She finished the final 14 holes of her round as doctor’s kept a close eye on the pro-golfer who had just performed surgery on herself with a golf tee.

Daniela is still in pain from the bite today and she said, “I don’t recommend getting bit by a black widow.” Despite her stoic approach to finishing the round, Daniela didn’t make the cut for the tournament. She finished with a 74.
