An article appeared in the Santa Cruz Sentinel on January 19th 2013 describing the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the now infamous Roe v Wade decision in 1973 in which the Supreme Court bestowed upon women the “right” to an abortion.
The timing of this celebration is somewhat ludicrous in the face of events that occurred in Connecticut recently.
Ironically, those that celebrate the fateful Supreme Court decision claim it is their Constitutional right to kill their unborn children while at the same time wailing and gnashing their teeth at the death of children by the hand of a mentally disturbed individual using a firearm.
Once again, these same people blame the gun for the tragic events that have occurred. The anti-gun forces have used this event to push their agenda and all across the nation mayors and governors have joined President Obama and his ilk including Memphis’ own Mayor Wharton, in an attempt to disarm average citizens.
If one were to actually read the Constitution, the 2nd Amendment clearly enumerates the right of the people to keep and bear arms, and the Supreme Court has affirmed this right. The right to kill an unborn child in the womb appears nowhere in the Constitution.
The argument in support of abortion has been in the past “when does life begin?” At conception? The first trimester? When the first heart beat is heard? If one were to be intellectually honest, a case could be made for life even before the sperm reaches the egg.Looking at a sample of live sperm under a microscope, the spermatozoa can be seen wiggling vigorously. Is that not life?
Ironically, the abortion argument has led to laws in some states that allow a person to be charged with two murders if one were to kill a pregnant woman and her fetus should die as well, yet that same woman could be on her way to an abortion clinic to have a doctor kill the child.
We have reached a point in our society where some people would scream for the choice to kill an unborn child in the womb claiming that it is a right to do so, while at the same time promoting the idea that no one has the right to keep and bear arms, despite the fact it is clearly written into the Constitution.
There can only be one word that applies to the concept of denying the average citizen the means to defend their own lives using the death of children to promote an anti-gun agenda while at the same time allowing children to be killed in the womb with a surgeon’s knife.
Hypocrisy.
