The following is a list of prize money up for grabs for professional golfers at the 2014 Northern Trust Open being played from Thursday, February 13, 2014, to Sunday, February 16, 2014, at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
Pacific Palisades is a neighborhood that is located within the city limits of Los Angeles, California, so the Northern Trust Open is really a Los Angeles and Hollywood event. Despite being an LA and Hollywood event, the 2014 Northern Trust Open is missing golf's two biggest stars, as both Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are not playing at Riviera this year.
This will be the first year since 2003 that the Northern Trust Open will be played without either Phil Mickelson or Tiger Woods. Phil Mickelson is not playing this year because the Northern Trust Open is being played during his eldest daughter's winter vacation from school.
Tiger Woods has not played the Northern Trust Open for eight straight years now. A little surprising, since the Northern Trust Open was the very first PGA tournament of Tiger Wood's career, as he played here as an amateur while still in high school back in 1992. Tiger Woods has played the Northern Trust Open 11 times in his career, and has never won the tournament.
Phil Mickelson has won the Northern Trust Open twice (2008 and 2009), and this will be the first time Phil Mickelson has missed the tournament since 2006. The players with the most wins at the Northern Trust Open are Macdonald Smith and Lloyd Mangrum with four. Arnold Palmer and Ben Hogan each won the tournament three times, and Hogan also won the 1948 U.S. Open at Riviera.
Rory McIlroy is also not playing the Northern Trust Open this year, but has said he is very likely to play here in the future. The 2014 Northern Trust Open field includes a couple of players who have already won the tournament twice in Mike Weir (2003 and 2004) and Fred Couples (1990 and 1992). Couples is playing in the Northern Trust Open for a record 32nd time in 2014.
