Amelia Island Restaurant Week: Fancy food without the fancy prices

Starting tomorrow, history repeats itself and fine dining in GreaterJax™ gets a little cheaper.

The 6th Annual Amelia Island Restaurant Week opens on Friday, when 20 or so of Fernandina’s most chichi eateries offer three-course menus with special pricing.

Offering full meals prix fixe, participating restaurants serve diners their choice of an appetizer, an entrée, a dessert and a non-alcoholic beverage for either $19 or $29 per person.

From traditional southern and Florida seafood recipes to the outré and downright exotic, Island chefs have put concocted cuisine to titillate the imagination and charm the palate.

This year’s Restaurant Week Kick-Off is this evening at 6 p.m. at the Ritz-Carlton’s Café 4750 when the chefs from 20 South, Lulu’s, The Salty Pelican and España team up with local seafood vendors and area farmers from the Fernandina Beach Market Place in a celebration of culinary skill and the freshest ingredients.

The cost is $96 per person and includes a reception with hors d’oeuvres, a buffet of appetizers – shellfish, meats, fruits, breads and salads – followed by tasters’ plates and dessert.
