Have you been considering private school for your child? There's a great opportunity this weekend for parents to learn more about private schools in Central Virginia.
It's Your Choice: Private School Expo will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 at River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg. Many of the area's private schools will have information available about their academic programs to help parents find the right school for their children.
For some parents, private school is the only choice for religious reasons. Many of the area's private schools are faith-based. Other parents choose private schools for the smaller class sizes that help students receive more one-on-one attention.
One of the schools represented at the expo is Holy Cross Regional Catholic School, the area's only Catholic school. Holy Cross is a PreK-12 school with a rigorous curriculum that exceeds the requirements of the Standards of Learning set by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Holy Cross is now accepting applications for the 2013-2014 Pre-K and kindergarten classes for the upcoming school year. Applications should be submitted by Feb. 1 to be considered in the first round of applicants.
Timberlake Christian Schools will be among the other faith-based schools at the expo. With campuses in Lynchburg and Forest, Timberlake Christian is a ministry of Timberlake Baptist Church, offering grades PreK-12.
Parents interested in private preschools can learn more about Montessori education, a child-centered approach developed by Maria Montessori in the early 1900s in Rome and introduced in 1960 in America.
Blue Ridge Montessori School and the Montessori Children's House will be represented at the expo. Blue Ridge Montessori, located in Lynchburg, offers 2-5 day programs for children ages 18 months to five years.
New Vistas School, which serves grades K-12, offering special help to students with learning and attention differences, will also be at the expo. New Vistas partners with both Lynchburg College and Randolph College.
Other schools at the expo will include James River Day School, Virginia Episcopal School, Tree of Life Academy and many others. Those visiting the expo can enter to win a $500 school tuition voucher to the school of their choice for the 2013-2014 school year.
