Heading into January 12th’s ‘Private Practice’ ‘Standing Eight Count' episode, Violet (Amy Brenneman) and Pete (Tim Daly) are separated and living apart and Addison (Kate Walsh) and Sam (Taye Diggs) are split because she desperately wants a baby and he doesn’t. KaDee Strickland tweeted a teaser before the episode on January 12th, asking ‘Can they make up after they break up?’ But it seems as if the biggest challenge awaits the couple who are still married and in love: Strickland's character, Charlotte, and Cooper (Paul Adelstein), as they face a potential tragedy that will seriously impact life as they know it.
Erica (AJ Langer) drops a glass at the practice in front of Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) who suggests she get an MRI to be safe. Erica refuses, so Amelia convinces Charlotte to gain (unethical) access to Erica’s medical records. The reports reveal that she’s got an inoperable tumor, with a terminal prognosis, and is only given months to live.
Charlotte confronts Erica and begs her to tell Cooper. Erica warns Charlotte that if she tells Cooper, she’ll take Mason (Griffin Gluck) away and Cooper will never see him again.
Meanwhile, Cooper knows something is wrong with Charlotte, but she keeps painfully silent. Finally, at the end of the episode, Erica knocks on Cooper’s door and tells him she needs to speak to him privately.
While Charlotte has been reluctant about having her own child with Cooper, she seems to have adjusted to Mason rather well. However, if Erica dies and Mason moves in full time, it will be a big adjustment for all of them—especially as Mason grieves the loss of his mother. Charlotte and Cooper have survived some huge tragedies and they will have to lean on that love to pull them all through what may be some very dark days ahead.
So, it looks like all of the Seaside Wellness staff face some bumpy roads in the future. Although it looks like Addison and Jake may be on the cusp of getting a little closer…
In a January 12th EOnline interview, Creator Shonda Rhimes said she hasn’t made up her mind which way things will ultimately go for Addison and Sam. She also mentioned Addison and Jake, saying:
‘…there is also going to be a little heatedness between Addison and Jake (Bratt) which may or may not be Addison's way of trying to get over Sam.’
Looks like we’re just going to have to wait and see…
‘Private Practice’ airs Thursdays at 10 PM EST on ABC.
