The Hugh Jackman thriller, “Prisoners,” is looking to earn somewhere between $20 and $22 million over the weekend, after earning a solid $7 million on Friday. According to a Sept. 21 report from The Wrap, the total for “Prisoners” will be the most out of all the other films in theaters.
There was a bit of concern from analysts on how the film would do in its debut weekend. But despite its R rating, 153-minute runtime, and dark subject matter didn’t drive audience members away from seeing it. So far, the film has a 79 percent score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a B+ grade from audiences on Cinemascore.
The 3D dance movie, “Battle of the Year,” opened on a dismal note – earning just $1.7 million on Friday. Analysts are predicting the film will wind up with just $5 million from 2,008 screens, which would put it ahead of summer holdovers like “The Butler” and “We’re the Millers.”
Last week’s champion, “Insidious 2,” is predicted to have a 60 to 70 percent drop in its second weekend of release. But the movie has already earned 10 times more than its $5 million budget and is expected to add $14 million more to its total by the weekend’s end.
