Printed Matter: D.A.P. releases new books on Yohji Yamamoto and David Bowie

While many claim that the printed word is dead, Distributed Art Publishers (the company that produced Phllip-Lorca diCorcia's book of W Magazine spreads, ELEVEN) is putting out some of the season's hottest art/fashion must-reads.

Fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto, who has always pushed boundaries through clothing, is releasing an autobiography titled My Dear Bomb. It's part of the re-invention of the Y-3 designer after a tumultuous rollercoaster year that ended in him going bankrupt. Too big to fail, Yamamoto uses the book to explore the facts of his life and to explain himself as an artist.

In addition to hearing from the master designer himself, there are recollections from friends and family. Sketches and photos shed further light on the normally reclusive fashion star. You'll be able to explore his unique vision firsthand when the book is released in June.

A more extroverted subject is David Bowie; otherwise known as Ziggy Stardust, originator of the Gaga lightning bolt , or supermodel Iman's husband and babydaddy. A tome chronicling his path from long-haired musician with vari-colored eyes to rock legend and provocateur called Any Day Now will be released in May of this year. For hard-core Bowie fans, this may be the most exhaustive listing of concert appearances, recordings, and image changes yet.

On a related note: Moby changed mainstream music back in the 90's with his epic album Play. Many years, and a feud with Eminem (which involved one hit comedy wonder Triumph the Insult Comic Dog) Moby is releasing his ninth studio album and a book, both named Destroyed. the book is a behind the scenes peek at the musician's life on the road, a bit like David Byrne's 1997 book Strange Ritual.

The book will include a copy of Moby's album and the May 17th release date coincides with a photography and multi-media show at New York's CLIC Gallery.

D.A.P also has book aabout Mark Morrisroe, James Welling, Andrew Kuo, and Takashi Murakami. Trend for summer? Pick up one of these sophisticatedly artsy new offerings!
