A long bus ride up Highway 169 would be a happy one for Ally McAlpine, who scored two goals to lead the Princeton Tigers to a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Park Orioles Thursday night at The Rec Center.
The Tigers lone first period goal came when Maggie Peterson fed Alanna Mattson in the center slot and she scored.
Princeton added two more goals in the second period. The first came on an unassisted goal from Lauren Pelzer that deflected off St. Louis Park goalie Annika Carlander's stick and entered the net. McAlpine's first goal came on an assist from Erica Schramel.
It would take 35 seconds for the Tigers to tally in the third period as McAlpine scored a power play goal on a third shot rebound. Bridget Walter's goal from the left side gave Princeton a five goal lead. Oriole head coach Donnie Williams replaced Carlander in goal with Hannah Brodersen.
Would Princeton goalie Kara Schramel earn her fifth shutout of the season? The answer would be no when Leah Schrank cranked a shot past the seventh grade goalie to put St. Louis Park on the board. It would also wrap up the scoring.
The Tigers improved their record to 10-3-1 and will host the Rogers Royals Jan. 8 at the Princeton Ice Arena. The orioles lost their seventh straight game and host the Chisago Lakes Wildcats Saturday afternoon at The Rec Center.
