Peach has been part of the fighting game series since Super Smash Bros. Melee was released for the Gamecube in 2001 so her return for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS version of the game is not terribly surprising.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, she was known for her ability to float in the air as well as her high priority attacks such as the f-air crown slap. This appears to return judging by the screenshots released along with the Toad special attack that uses the character as shield to cancel projectile or multi-hit attacks.
Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS is currently in development at Nintendo with plans for a 2014 release on both platforms. Series creator Masahiro Sakurai is back at the helm in the game director role with assistance from Namco Bandai.
