This week it was reported that HRH Crown Princess Mary has completed a visit to the Danish Home Guarding Division stationed in Kosovo. The Princess was welcomed in her camouflage and beret uniform showing that she holds the rank of lieutenant in the Guard. The Danish troops deployed to the region are currently responsible for access control of the camp that is home to the battle group. This work includes guarding and patrolling the base, making sure the troops located inside are kept safe. Danish troops have been stationed in Kosovo since the conflict began, and NATO sent troops in, during the summer of 1999. This, the Princess’ second trip to the region, included a briefing on the situation and recent developments. She met with Danish, German, and French military leaders who gave her a lay of the land. The future Queen also presented NATO mission medals to everyone in the division for their service. With the area becoming more stable, NATO troops are being drawn down and the military presence is declining.
