HRH Princess Mabel of Orange-Nassau has posted a message of thanks to the public on the website of the Dutch Royal Family. The message was in response to the outpouring of support she has received following the death of her husband, HRH Prince Friso, in August after spending months in a coma following a skiing accident. The post said in full:
We wholeheartedly thank you for your warm words and expressions of support and sympathy. Friso's dedication, loyalty and love meant so much to us. His keen insights, sense of perspective, humor and self-assured yet unassuming presence will remain with us forever.
The message was signed by the Princess and the couple’s two daughters Countess Zaria and Countess Luana. Also signed below the note was the Prince’s closest family his mother HRH Princess Beatrix, brothers HM King Willem-Alexander and HRH Prince Constantine, and their wives HM Queen Maxima and HRH Princess Laurentien. The family laid the Prince to rest on August 16 in a small private ceremony. There will be a public celebration at some point in the future but the details have yet to be announced.
