Princess Letizia and Prince Felipe at Volvo Ocean Race

TRH Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia visited Alicante, Spain yesterday, the site of the Volvo Ocean Race.  On the agenda for the day was a christening ceremony where the Princess of Asturias was to become the godmother of the team, Telefónica.  “It’s a great honor,” said the Telefónica skipper Iker Martínez. “That they take an interest in sailing is fantastic in itself but the fact that the Princess has become the boat´s godmother is a real privilege.”  Before inspecting the boat with her Olympic sailor husband, the Princess presented the team with the Spanish flag they will carry throughout the race, which starts on October 29.  The royal couple also had a meeting with those involved with the sailing event to discuss craft technology and the economic impact on the surrounding area by the staging of the Volvo Ocean Race.  The Volvo Ocean Race is an epic 39,000 nautical mile race around the world.
