Princess Kate taking break from royal duties as she enters second trimester

Kate Middleton is scaling back on her royal duties as she enters into her second trimester according to a new report. Palace sources claim the Duchess of Cambridge, believed to be about 13-14 weeks along, will not be seen in public for several weeks. The 31-year-old is expected to resume her official royal duties "in the near future," the Daily Mail quotes a source as saying today (Tuesday).

The only appearance Kate Middleton has made this year, so far, was at Friday's unveiling of her portrait at the National Portrait Gallery. The calendar on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's website remains clear. However, it's not out of the question that she could make more surprise appearances, as she did with the BBC Sports Personality Awards in late December.

The Duchess has only attended a handful of royal engagements since announcing her pregnancy about six weeks ago. Following her four-day hospitalization, at least four engagements were cancelled. Kate's schedule reportedly continues to be dictated by her current condition and doctors' advice.

Prince Harry is expected to return home from his second tour in Afghanistan this month. While it's unknown how the royal family will celebrate his homecoming, Prince William and Kate Middleton could potentially step out for the occasion.
