Princess Ingrid Alexandra celebrates 8th birthday

HRH Princess Ingrid Alexandra, future Queen of Norway, turned 8 years old today.  In honor of her birthday, the royal court released four new pictures of the Princess who is growing up so fast.  The pictures are from a portrait session, as opposed to last year’s pictures which were action shots of the Princess with the family dog.  At the same time her mother, HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit, tweeted a poem “For Ingrid on her birthday.”  The poem is about living life and enjoying the little hiccups that make it so great.  An excerpt from the work by Wislawa Szymborska:

and if only once
to stumble upon a stone,
end up soaked in one downpour or another,

mislay your keys in the grass;
and to follow a spark on the wind with your eyes;
and to keep on not knowing
something important.

The young Princess is said to be a very typical 8-year-old.  She loves to draw and read, but also enjoys playing with her brothers.  Although Ingrid Alexandra has starting doing small public engagements, there will be no public celebration for the Princess’ birthday; it will just be a private day with her family.  The first girl born with the right of succession to the throne is a student at Jansløkka Elementary School.
